Wielder of the very forces of life and death, terrifying precision, assaults of the mind and body through the use of elixirs, powders, fire, explosions, poisonous spirits, and undead creatures from the netherworld are all in the arsenal of the great and feared Witch Doctor of the legendary umbaru race. Residing in the southern tip of the eastern continent within the dense Torajan jungles lies the area known as Teganze. This secluded area of the world remains almost unknown to foreigners as the Tribe of the Five Hills receives little in the way of guests. Lower Teganze is both fascinating and perplexing to those of other lands for their culture engages in tribal warfare with both the Clan of the Seven Stones and the Tribe of the Clouded Valley. Conquest is not their goal however- but matters of ritual. Victors may replenish the supply of raw materials for their human sacrifices that such a civilization revolves around. This however is of no threat to the outside word, for only those taken in battle are worthy of such sacrifice.
The tribes define themselves by their belief in “The Unformed Land.” The true and sacred reality is veiled behind the physical one we experience, and the ceremonies performed centering around sacrifice are the life force that flows from their gods, who inhabit the unformed land, into the lesser physical realm. The Witch Doctors are finely attuned to the unformed land and are able to train their minds to perceive this reality through a combination of rituals and the use of select roots and herbs of their jungle. The state of interaction within this other world is the Ghost Trance. Their second most sacred belief lies in the philosophy of self-sacrifice and non-individuality which support the interests and good of the tribe rather than the individual.
Through social upheaval, banishment from a corrupt group of leaders, and a promise from the spirits of the unformed land; the Witch Doctor embarks on the path of conflict- determined to see the greater truth. And though their story may at first glance sound mystical and religious; do not be fooled. The terrifying powers wielded by any who blur the lines of life and death historically have always been shown to meet with fear and misunderstanding. To whatever end this path may lead, there will be no shortage of corpses left in the wake of the messenger of the spirits.
