Aranoch

The region of Aranoch consists mostly of vast, sand-swept desert, bordered on the east by the Twin Seas and to the west by the nigh-impassable mountain fastness of the Tamoe Range. In the distant past, the northern reaches of Aranoch were controlled by the great nation of Ivgorod, and a number of tombs of Ivgorod’s ancient Patriarchs are located in Aranoch’s deserts. Aranoch’s nomadic inhabitants named the burial grounds the Canyon of the Magi, in the mistaken belief that the Mage Clans played a role in it’s creation.

The powerful mage, Tal Rasha, was bound and entombed by the Horadrim in the Canyon of the Magi after he allowed his body to become a vessel for the Prime Evil, Baal, whose demonic essence was only partly contained by his shattered Soulstone.

As well as a number of nomadic human clans, the hot desert is home to the panther-men, or ‘lacuni’ as they are properly known, sustained by scattered oases and the vast subterranean system of caverns that honeycomb the desert.

Aranoch’s chief city (and it’s only real sizable permanent settlement) is Lut Gholein, a bustling port on the eastern coast. Known as The Jewel of the Desert, this sultanate and merchant hub has played host to great events throughout Sanctuary’s history, one example being as the site of the final battle between the risen Warlord of Blood, Bartuc and his brother, the great mage, Horazon.
