Located in the far hills east of the Sharval Wilds, bordered to the south by the dark Gorgorra forest, the mysterious realm of Ivgorod is a shadow of its former self.
Having once encompassed parts of its western neighbor, Einsteig and the northern reaches of Aranoch, this insular and deeply traditional civilization’s power was broken on the swords of the crusading Zakarum and now comprises but a single city-state; its ancient capital, the City of the Patriarchs, in the Kohl mountains.
The City is ruled by a devoted oligarchy of nine Patriarchs. The Patriarchs work to maintain balance; four of them are sworn to Order, four more to Chaos and one is Neutral. They are believed to be reincarnations of the nine original hallowed rulers of Ivgorod, chosen by the gods themselves. Ivgorod’s religion, Sahptev, is based on the belief in its thousand and one gods and goddesses. It informs every aspect of life in Ivgorod and its tenets are rigidly upheld.
Headquartered at their training temple, the Floating Sky Monastery, the secretive and devout monks of Ivgorod – the Verdani Order, live in lonely temples dotted throughout the forbidding peaks of the Kohl mountains. In these monasteries, this martial arm of the Sahptev faith hone their minds and bodies over the course of their lives into living instruments of justice. Although rarely seen outside their isolationist homeland, many fantastic tales are told of the Verdani monks’ extraordinary abilities.
