Kehjistan

Known in ancient times as Kehjan, the region of Kehjistan encompasses a third of Sanctuary’s eastern continent. In the south, Kehjistan is dominated by a vast tropical rainforest. The dense vegetation is crisscrossed by a myriad of streams and marshes, most of which empty into the mighty Argentek, Sanctuary’s longest river. There are several cities located in the green expanse, as well as the ruins of more that have been lost to time and retaken by the jungle.

Once-great Kurast and the Temple City of Travincal, the birthplace of the Zakarum, are built on the Argentek, as is Gea Kul on the coast of the Twin Seas. Further to the south lies the mage city of Viz-Jun,  rebuilt after being destroyed in the chaos of the Mage Clan Wars. The dead city of Ureh is located near a branch of the river in a valley in the eastern mountains, beyond which the land itself gives way to a system of marshes and choked streams known as the Swamplands.

Traveling north of the Argentek River, the rainforest gives way to increasingly dry and arid land finally becoming desert in the vast region known as the Borderlands, which extends all the way to the northern mountains. The Borderlands is host to the great city of Caldeum, trade capital of the world as well as the major settlements of Lut Bahadur and Alcarnus, and the oasis settlement of Dahlgur. Caldeum, the Jewel of the East, stands as the center of Kehjistani life and governance and has done so since the fall of Travincal and the flight to Caldeum of the remnants of the Zakarum.

As a center for culture and learning, Caldeum is without equal. The Great Library of Caldeum is the largest and most important repository of knowledge in the world. The Yshari Sanctum, the legendary facility where a great number of present day members of the mage clans hone and perfect their mastery of the arcane, is also located in Caldeum.
